Basketweave Starfish platter

_SJH3643On holidays and special occasions My mother pulled out all the stops when it came to setting the table. She had a set of Wedgwood that was quite old. It was white with a pattern in relief of a delicate grapevine around the edge only. There was no color. No green leaves or purple grapes. The beauty was in the quietness of this omission. It’s subtle, delicate.  Light and shadow create the patterns interest. All the information needed. Many years later I realize how much this china has influenced my design choices. They are rooted in memory and that’s all that matters.
